Ram Gopal Varma is directing a film titled Rattha Charithram which has Surya in the lead role; this film is based on a real incident which happened in Andhra Pradesh. Some of the characters in this film are still living in Andhra. Ram Gopal Varma while speaking about this film said,” I did not want to confine this story to a particular State.
I wanted to make this film for Hindi, Tamil and Telugu audience who receive good films. I felt that if I made this film in these languages, it will reach all in India. In my 20 years of cinema experience I have been making films on people who are living s low profile.
Though I have made films on real incidents, this film make my blood freeze. Though I have the knowledge about Ravi’s growth, power and politics, I came to know about a person called Soori who tried to kill Ravi with a bomb near Rama Naidu Studios. Both the characters surprised me.
Finally Soori manages to kill Ravi sitting in the prison itself. I have made a detailed research by talking people close to Ravi and Soori. I have also met Soori’s family and recorded their emotions. I sought for special permission and met Soori in prison. I got the information necessary for the screenplay.
The police charge sheet and witnesses has helped a lot while penning the screenplay.”
Ram Gopal Varma in a note about Surya has mentioned that, “Initially we planned to shoot the fight at a certain time and the day before the shoot Surya asked me if he can shoot after another month and i said "are you mad' how can your body be more better than it is now? To which he said just trust me.
Non believingly I postponed just because he requested me and when he came back after a month I was Zapped to see the improvement. For all my reputations of shooting a Woman's body this is the first time I enjoyed shooting a mans body and the credit goes to his determination and spirit and his constant strive to better himself,,,”
